Wisconsin's Minimum Insurance Requirements May Increase
Right now, Wisconsin is one of the few states that do not require you to have auto insurance, only to show financial responsibility. However, if you do purchase auto insurance in Wisconsin, you will have to purchase the minimum liability requirements.
Wisconsin's minimum liability insurance is $25,000 per person and $50,000 for all persons injured in an accident. The Governor of Wisconsin, Jim Doyle, is proposing to increase those limits from $100,000 per person and $300,000 for each accident.
Experts say this would create about a 7 percent increase in auto insurance premiums for Wisconsin residents. Those who support the idea say it would prevent bankruptcy over medical costs involved in an accident. They say the minimum liability insurance requirements would not be enough to cover rising medical costs in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin residents should look for multiple auto insurance quotes before purchasing insurance. This way they will be able to find the most affordable auto insurance whether the liability minimums increase or not.
