Why it is Okay to Pay for Group Health Insurance

Believe it or not, companies that still offer group health insurance are making changes. This does not mean that they are getting rid of group health insurance benefits, but many are beginning to charge employees a portion of their premium. Do you feel good about this? Of course you don't. It is much better to get group health insurance for free than being stuck paying for it. But with that in mind, you need to realize that paying for group health insurance is not all that bad. In fact, when you compare this to buying your own policy you will find out soon enough that this is not something to get too upset about.

When you pay for group health insurance you are still going to save money over those who don't have this type of coverage. For instance, your employer may ask you to pay half of the premium. This may sound like a lot, but you will find out soon enough that this is quite affordable. And since the money will be taken directly from your paycheck you will never realize that it is gone. Sure, you may notice that you have less money but at least you don't have to write out a check each month.

Don't cancel your group health insurance just because you are being asked to pay for some of the premium. Instead, get a better idea of how much you will need to pay and then make a determination on whether or not this is a fair amount. There is a very good chance that you will find that you are still making out in the long run. In most cases, the benefits of group health insurance outweigh any that you may get by switching and buying an individual policy.
