Help! My Group Health Insurance is Gone

Imagine this: you have had good health insurance your entire life through your employer. But out of nowhere they decided that they are no longer going to offer group health insurance coverage. Now what are you supposed to do? If you find yourself in this position you are going to be screaming for help. But remember, you don’t have to get hysterical. There are things you can do to get the right coverage back in place. In other words, you don’t have to live without a policy just because you lost coverage through an employer sponsored plan.

If your group health insurance is no longer available the first thing you should do is make a list of all your options. For instance, you can pay for COBRA which allows you to keep the same policy in place until you find something better. This is a great option, but it will probably cost you a bit of money.

Don’t forget about buying individual health insurance. Yes, this can be expensive but it may be the only way for you to get coverage. Be willing to shop long and hard until you find a policy that offers good coverage at a reasonable price.

If all else fails you may want to consider finding a new job. This is not always the best move because you never know when your new employer will discontinue group health insurance. But it is definitely something to think about if the opportunity arises.

Don’t be scared if you lose your group health insurance. Yes, this is a big deal but it is not the end of the world. You can pay for COBRA until you find an individual policy that fits your needs and budget.
