Protecting a Business, be it Large or Small
Anyone who has a business, be it small or large, should definitely invest money in business insurance.
When you begin your search for business insurance, one of the first things you need to provide your agent with is information on the business so he or she can assist you in deciding what forms of business insurance you need. All businesses require insurance to cover against losses, even though those losses can fall into different categories.
Among the things your insurance agent will want to know about your business will be the type of work that you do, the parameters of the building you work in, and the company's finances.
There are a number of different business insurance options to consider as you seek coverage. Among them will be:
Property insurance - This is insurance to provide coverage for the building and its contents. This form of coverage gives you protection against losses and claims with the building you are in and all its contents. It doesn't matter if you own or rent the space, you should still have property insurance. The majority of leasing companies and landlords will require that you have property insurance in order to rent space from them. With this insurance, you are protected against multiple and single perils that could lead to the destruction or damage of your property and/or the contents.
Casualty insurance - This coverage provides insurance for losses to your business. In most cases, property and casualty insurance are combined in a package for a business and is the most common business insurance required.
Liability insurance - This form of coverage gives you protection from liability charges such as being sued for negligence. This form of coverage is especially important should you provide a service where people work on people (doctors, nurses, etc.) and there is the possibility of being sued for negligence.
Commercial auto insurance - This insurance provides you coverage for a business fleet of vehicles, thereby insuring for damage to others, property and vehicles. Keep in mind that your personal auto insurance does not provide coverage for your business vehicles or any collision or accident that you are involved with when driving your business vehicle. Provide your insurance agent with the names, and driver's license numbers and records of all individuals who will be operating office vehicles.
Business Liability Insurance or BOP Package - This package gives your company protection if a client is injured on your site or should you or one of your employees injure someone or damage property at a client's locale.
